Peruvian superfoods are packed with a wide array of vitamins and minerals
Let’s first keep it simple. Taking in a variety of a few different Peruvian superfoods a day will help people fill the gaps in certain nutrition holes. Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Manganese, etc… there is a rich nutritional profile behind each superfood.
When you are getting in all the vitamins and minerals you need (of course no one food group alone will have you 100% covered) but when you have everything your body needs, you operate at a more optimal level. When you are able to operate your body more efficiently, it only makes sense that you are going to have more energy.
Peruvian superfoods are loaded with antioxidants
As a general statement, Peruvian superfoods having massive amounts of antioxidants in them could be a contributor to why they give people energy. So, antioxidants are actually not directly tied to giving you energy. But many of the foods on the planet that directly give you energy, are chock full of antioxidants. Peruvian superfoods are known for its antioxidant profile.
Antioxidants support in inhibiting the oxidation process in the body. They are substances that act as protective agents. They support in protecting our bodies from free radicals, which can have damaging effects on our tissues and DNA. Free radicals are also known as by-products of the body’s chemical processes. The problem with free radicals is that they attack healthy cells. When this happens it changes their DNA. Any negatives happening with your DNA can take away energy from a person. So getting in antioxidants helps to ensure more protective agents. Peruvian foods like cacao especially may have some modulating effects.
The Flavinoids In Peruvian superfoods
The study just referenced in the last paragraph shows that fruits, vegetables, plant-derived beverages such as green tea, and cacao-based products are the main dietary sources of flavonoids.
Flavonoids have been shown to possess a wide variety of positive effects for the body:
-They scavenge free radicals (DNA protective = helps to preserve energy)
-They encourage autophagy
-They are beneficial for the heart
Peruvian superfoods that are particularly high in flavinoids are: Cacao, Lucuma, Camu Camu, Chia seeds, and Maca. (Source)

Did you know Vitamin C is an antioxidant? It also is something that can help support you with energy. Especially mental energy as Vitamin C supports cognitive function.
Peruvian superfoods are high in Vitamin C and we even have a worldly stand-out star: Camu Camu.
Camu Camu contains more natural Vitamin C than anything on the planet, to scale.
Oxidative stress near the brain is not going to help with mental energy. Vitamin C being an antioxidant, can help fight off oxidative stress. Studies with elderly populations have shown that those who regularly took Vitamin C had stronger cognitive functionality than those who did not.
Another study showed that those who took Vitamin C and Vitamin E regularly were able to hold on to their sharp memory and thinking skills for longer than those who did not. It should be known that those who got their Vitamin C from food did much better.
Many Peruvian superfoods are adaptogenic
Adaptogens can help with stress levels and endurance. Some adaptogen Peruvian superfoods are cacao and Maca. But let’s look at Maca for this example.
Maca is a powerful antioxidant that is known to help with libido and endurance. Both things that require energy.
A March 2018 study shows the protective, antioxidant properties maca has. In the study, stallion semen is treated with maca root to reduce the damage of oxidative stress during cooling and transport. The results showed the integrity of the semen to decline more slowly in those treated with maca.
Maca has also been shown to improve cognitive function- giving people the mental energy that they crave. The 2016 study involving middle-aged mice showed that aging mice experienced less loss of cognitive abilities as they aged when they were administered maca on a daily basis.
The strong adaptogen, Maca, also helps with heart health, And in order to keep up in life- catering to your cardiovascular capacity for endurance is important. Maca showed the ability to support cardiovascular health in a 2013 study of people living in the Peruvian central Andes. Peruvian foods studied within a Peruvian culture- we love to see it.
